Friday Links for the Modern Drinker

Beer in glass spilling

Yes it’s that time of the week again. I spend a ridiculous amount of time trawling the internet for these gems so that you, my loyal readers – both of you – can be the best informed and educated drinkers in all of Melbourne.

Do you have trouble deciding if it’s an appropriate drinking time or not? I know I do. Why only last week I was at this board meeting… Anyway, thanks to this web site you will never have to wonder if it’s beer o’clock again! http://isitbeeroclock.com/

Any serious beer nerd in Melbourne knows about The Local Taphouse in St Kilda. On the first of March next year Taphouse co-owner Steve Jeffares is hosting an event there called How to Create a Great Beer Venue. The night will kick off with networking and, of course, beer, before Steve shares his insights on the subject. More details here.

Beer flavoured ice cream…I have no words.

Christmas day can be a lonely time for a lot of people. And thanks to pretty much everywhere being closed, it can be a boring and sober one as well. Thank god for The Richmond Club Hotel who on Tuesday posted the following on their facebook page: ‘We’re open Chrissie Day. And and as always the “Crap Present Exchange Box” will be sitting on the bar! Simply throw in a crap gift you were given and pull out somebody else’s!’

I do love a good beer ad. This one for Norte beer is clearly aimed at the facebook generation

I started this blog because, well, I love blogs and I love pubs. I’ve been scoping out the local blog scene to see what else is out there and I have to recommend Just Beer No Bull. Great beer reviews guys, keep up the good work.

Thank you to Stu, my loyal reader, for forwarding me this gem on the history of beer, and why Belgians make pretty much the best beer in the world. I’d just like to point out that I’ll be in Belgium in about 6 months. I. CAN’T. FREAKIN’. WAIT.

Finally, one of Melbourne’s premiere blogs is Fitzroyalty. A must read for anyone who spends time in the wonderful inner norther suburbs. Check out their recent post about the publication of the 2012 Fitzroy Pubs Calendar.

That’s pretty much it. I’m in Canberra for most of next week but I plan to post a holiday report on the state of pubs in our nation’s capital…I’m as keen to find out how that one turns out as you are.

Merry Christmas, and thanks for reading. Oh, and if you have any Melbourne Pub related news or links, please e-mail melbournepubculture@gmail.com.
